In Florida, I Eat!

The long awaited post about the food I happily chowed down on my extended hiatus in Florida is finally here. I started my trip in Miami. Although I was excited to catch some rays, what food I would be eating was on my mind. The first day I arrived I immediately went to Miami Juice in Aventura. Here I ordered the famous “tuna ball” salad along with chicken and brown rice.

That night we prepared for my first Joe’s Stone Crab Experience. And let me tell you, we did not hold back at all! We started off with the Fried Chicken, Sautéed Shrimp, Creamed Spinach and their famous Chips. For the main course we proceeded to order the Jumbo Stone Crabs! The way the crab meat melts in your mouth is indescribable.

The following day I was taken to a local spot, Juice and Java, in North Miami. With such a diverse menu it was clear we could have eaten here every day without repeating our order once! If I lived in Miami Beach this would definitely be part of my daily routine. Come to New York City, PLEASE! We started with some hummus and pita, followed by quinoa and a chicken breast.

When you think you don’t have room for anymore food, you do! At 8 pm we drove to South Beach where we began our fourth feast at Prime Italian. All I can say is the meatball, the meatball, the meatball! We ordered the classic beef meatball with ricotta cheese on top, stuffed tomatoes with cauliflower and tuna tartar with a quail egg… unreal! And let me not forget to mention the garlic bread they give you to start- cheesy goodness at its finest.

Although the weather, food and company was unbeatable in Miami, I was off to Boynton Beach for the remainder of my trip.  My food highlights here included (but were not limited to) Luna Rosa, Street Eats on Atlantic Avenue, Dune Deck Cafe, Cafe L’Europe, Prime Catch and The Office. Let’s just say I did not deprive myself during my mini vacation. Although it was bikini season in Florida, I knew I would be traveling home to NYC soon were I could hibernate in my big sweaters and eat my heart out until the Summer time arrived.

This was a fine dining experience that was unforgettable. Not only was the food to die for but the ambiance and service was top of the line.
